BAROCCO II

N° 44 October 2018

A little something from Dali, a touch of Marc Chagall, and an imprint of
Pablo Picasso, at the time of his blue period, these are the pillars of the
History of modern art on which the work could be based. enigmatic of
NATHALIE JACQUOUNAIN.
Originally from Russia, this contemporary artist actually likes to depict in
her paintings the melodramatic, the spooky, the folk: in short, the baroque.
And the place that temporarily houses his paintings was not chosen by
chance; the Cloître des Billettes, the only medieval cloister in Paris.
In this Gothic atmosphere, the works of NATHALIE JACQUOUNAIN are
instinctively inscribed there, by their surreal character.
All blue painted, they give off an atmosphere sometimes dreamlike,
sometimes mythological; the devilish Couturier, represents for example a
Narcissus trying on a shoe, surrounded by malicious creatures…
Complemented by original sculptures and subligraphies on metal, silk or
velvet, it is in his intimate thought that the artist invites us, sublimated by
the mysticism of the place.
