THE BAROCCO REVISITED

N° 38 March 2018

Baroque is omnipresent in Jacquounain’s work.
Whether it's the places in which it is exhibited, or the aesthetics of
her work. The decorative overload, the dramatic effects, the palpable
tension, the exaggeration of the movement, the exuberance, the greatness
in all its forms and the contrast, everything is there.
She tends to excessively transform reality, but always with poetry. Her
painting, without recalling that of the great Salvador Dalí, lets appear
silhouettes (human or not) which, thanks to a play of shapes and colors
establish a manifest dialogue. The emblematic figures of Greek mythology
are also ubiquitous in the work of Jacquounain.
So we can find a Narcissus and his distorting mirror in the middle of a
definitely Olympian atmosphere. A divine wind blows on the various
canvases of the exhibition, bringing to life the mystical atmosphere that
emerges from the place. A veritable jewel of stone, the cloister offers a
scenography well suited to the works.
